As the first Cinema Line FX-series camera to offer full-frame Open Gate recording, the FX5 supports 5K recording at up to 120fps in a 3:2 aspect ratio and 4K recording at up to 240fps in a cropped format, providing exceptional flexibility for reframing, slow-motion capture, and advanced production workflows. Internal 16-bit scene-linear X-OCN recording eliminates the need for an external RAW recorder, with LT, C1, and C2 codec options balancing image quality, file size, and workflow requirements. AI-powered Real-time Eye AF accurately detects and tracks human, animal, and bird eyes, while Fast Hybrid AF with up to 759 phase-detection points delivers reliable focus performance, even when tracking fast-moving subjects in low light or at shallow depths of field. For anamorphic production, built-in de-squeeze support offers compatibility with a wide range of lenses through 1.3x, 1.5x, 1.6x, 1.8x, and 2.0x settings.

Sony's advanced colour science is reflected throughout the FX5. Deep learning-driven Auto Tracing White Balance provides highly accurate colour reproduction under challenging lighting conditions, while S-Cinetone delivers cinematic colour, natural skin tones, and smooth gradation directly from the camera. S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine colour spaces exceed both BT.2020 and DCI-P3 standards, preserving extensive colour information for precise grading and seamless matching with Sony VENICE 2 cameras in multi-camera productions.
