Equipped with dual opposite-facing lenses, the MAX records everything around you in a complete 360 view, offering video up to 4992 x 2496 resolution and stills at 5760 x 2880. The camera automatically stitches both photos and video for easy editing and sharing, while a single-lens mode lets you shoot traditional HERO-style wide-angle footage when needed. The latest version adds an Enduro rechargeable lithium-ion battery, an upgraded 1/4"-20 tripod-compatible mounting system, and enhanced editing options in the Quik app.

The MAX offers creative modes like PowerPano, which captures 270 stills without distortion, and TimeWarp, which allows variable-speed recording so you can slow down and speed up footage in real time. Lens options include Narrow, Linear, Wide, and Max SuperView for ultra-wide perspectives. HyperSmooth stabilization keeps footage smooth with in-camera horizon leveling, working in both HERO and 360 modes. Spherical audio is captured using six microphones, creating immersive 360 surround-sound video. Like the HERO7 and HERO8 Black, the MAX supports 1080p live streaming to social media.

In the Quik app, Reframe transforms 360 footage into shareable traditional videos, while AI-powered tools track objects, set keyframes, add dynamic camera movements with CameraFx, and create automatic transitions. Single-clip editing lets you apply filters, adjust volume, and tweak color, and a new Frame Grab tool turns video stills into photos.

The MAX includes an Enduro 1600mAh rechargeable battery, curved adhesive mount, two protective lens caps, mounting buckle, and USB-C charging cable. Recording requires a minimum class 10 or UHS-1 microSD card up to 256GB, and the camera supports HEVC for high-quality video in smaller file sizes. Waterproof up to 16 feet, the MAX handles splashes, rain, and light water activities. Its touchscreen offers easy control, and hands-free operation is possible with 14 voice commands in over ten languages and accents. A USB-C port allows quick offloading of footage to your computer.
