At its heart lies a 24MP full-frame BSI CMOS sensor paired with a hybrid autofocus system, delivering continuous shooting speeds of up to 30 frames per second with full autofocus, making it the fastest Leica to date. Its video performance is equally remarkable, offering unlimited 6K Open Gate internal recording that uses the entire sensor area in its native 3:2 aspect ratio. Encased in a durable IP54-rated all-metal body and supported by CAI-compliant credentials technology, the SL3-S is built for reliability and authenticity.
The 24MP full-frame BSI CMOS sensor, combined with the Maestro IV processor and 8GB of buffer memory, ensures outstanding low-light results and vibrant color output in file sizes ideal for sharing. It supports both DNG and JPEG formats at 24MP, along with handheld multishot modes at 48MP and 96MP for even greater detail. The SL3-S features 779 autofocus points - three times more than the SL2-S and over twice as many as the SL3 - providing faster, more precise object recognition and tracking. The combination of Contrast Detection AF and phase-detection technology enables smooth subject tracking, especially for continuous bursts at 30 fps.
On the video side, the SL3-S is designed for professionals seeking creative flexibility. Unlimited 6K Open Gate recording allows full use of the sensor, providing room for reframing and cropping without loss of quality. It supports visual effects workflows with richer image data and accommodates anamorphic lenses while maintaining full image information. The camera also offers creative aspect ratios such as 4:3 and 3:2, enhancing artistic control. For external workflows, 5.9K RAW recording enables extensive post-production versatility with superb dynamic range and color grading capability, while direct SSD recording via USB-C allows expanded storage and faster data handling. It records 5.9K HDMI-RAW at 30 fps, supports CFexpress Type B cards for high-efficiency 6K video capture, and introduces an upgraded Cine Mode tailored to professional filmmaking.
A 5-axis in-body image stabilization system provides up to five stops of shake reduction for sharper handheld shots. The SL3-S EyeRes viewfinder, featuring a glass optical system, displays subjects with exceptional clarity at up to 120 frames per second and a 5.76-million-dot resolution. The camera's ergonomic design includes a tilting touchscreen with improved gesture controls, adaptive user interface based on camera orientation, dual card slots (SD UHS-II and CFexpress Type B), HDMI 2.1 Type A, USB-C connectivity, direct SSD capture, and a timecode interface for professional synchronization.
The SL3-S also becomes the first camera in the SL lineup to feature Leica Content Credentials with CAI-compliant hardware. Each image can be securely signed with tamperproof metadata, providing access to verification tools that reveal the content's origin, production details, and editing history - ensuring creative integrity and transparency.
