The Canon EOS C50 Cinema Camera introduces a newly designed 7K full-frame CMOS sensor in a compact form, built for both high-end video and stills. It can capture 3:2 Open Gate video at 4K120, raw video up to 7K60, and 32MP photos when switched into still mode, allowing hybrid shooters to transition smoothly between formats. Advanced tools include Dual-Pixel CMOS AF II, 2K crop recording, Frame.io Camera-to-Cloud integration, and XC protocol for remote operation. The detachable top handle provides two 3-pin XLR inputs with onboard controls for convenient adjustments during production. Its 7K back-illuminated sensor produces low-noise images across varied lighting while enabling over 15 stops of dynamic range. Oversampled 4K60 footage benefits from the additional resolution, and Open Gate recording makes full use of the sensor for reframing or anamorphic workflows.

The C50 records in 7K60 Cinema RAW Light with three 12-bit modes - HQ, ST, and LT - and also offers 10-bit 4:2:2 XF-AVC for detailed images at up to 120 fps with no crop. Additional formats include XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S, which simplify naming and metadata while remaining efficient. High frame rates extend to 4K120 and 2K180 for slow or fast motion shooting. Built-in anamorphic de-squeeze lets you preview different magnifications including 2x, 1.8x, 1.5x, and 1.3x. Dual base ISOs of 800 and 6400 in Canon Log 2 recording preserve maximum dynamic range, with Auto Selection toggling intelligently between levels. Autofocus remains accurate even at high frame rates, supported by the wide-area Dual-Pixel CMOS AF II system. Deep learning algorithms provide refined subject recognition with eye priority options and expanded animal detection including birds. Dual card slots allow simultaneous recording with CFexpress Type-B for main files and SD cards for sub or proxy files. Vertical shooting is simplified with a native UI that rotates menus, controls, and the LCD for portrait orientation, while touch-enabled start/stop recording enhances usability. The detachable handle adds two XLR inputs with phantom power, a zoom rocker, and a start/stop button, making low-angle filming easier.
