The Sony FX2 is a compact and travel-ready full-frame camera that blends the professional video features of the Cinema Line with enhanced still-image capabilities. It houses a 33MP back-illuminated Exmor R sensor and is powered by a BIONZ XR processor, allowing for vibrant 4K video with natural color gradation and low noise. The camera delivers full pixel readout and 7K oversampling in full-frame mode for sharp, detailed results, while also supporting Super 35 recording for flexible lens options. Designed to handle a variety of lighting situations, it offers over 15 stops of dynamic range and ISO settings expandable to 102400, along with an updated dual-base ISO at 800 and 4000 for optimal S-Log3 performance.

The FX2 includes a range of professional tools for filmmakers and creators. It records 10-bit 4:2:2 DCI 4K footage internally or outputs 16-bit RAW via HDMI. Users can select from multiple formats including XAVC S, S-I, and HS in both H.264 and H.265 codecs. Up to 16 custom LUTs can be imported, and S-Cinetone mode allows for easy color matching with cameras like the VENICE, FX6, and FX3. The camera supports variable frame rates for slow motion and time-lapse recording, along with in-camera de-squeezing for anamorphic footage. A toggle switch allows seamless transition between video and still modes, and stills can be captured in JPG or HEIF using S-Log3, including extracting frames from video or applying LUTs to saved images.

The FX2’s AI processing unit significantly enhances autofocus, image stabilization, and framing by analyzing colors, patterns, and depth in real time. It recognizes people, animals, and vehicles with improved precision and delivers 30 percent better human and animal eye detection than previous models like the FX3 and FX30. This results in faster, more accurate subject tracking, making it ideal for fast-paced environments like wildlife and sports. The AI-driven framing stabilization keeps subjects centered during recording, and in-body 5-axis stabilization reduces camera shake, supported by Dynamic Active Mode and lens metadata for post-processing.

Drawing inspiration from CineAlta models, the FX2 features the BIG6 home screen interface for quick adjustments to frame rate, ISO, shutter angle, aperture, look, and white balance. It includes a three-inch flip-out touchscreen with 1.03 million-dot resolution and a unique 3.68 million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder with 0.7x magnification and tilt from 0 to 90 degrees. The viewfinder’s eye cup and 33mm eye point allow for clear framing even in difficult lighting.

Connectivity is extensive, with a USB-C port for fast charging or LAN connections using an adapter, wireless streaming over dual-band Wi-Fi, and data transfer via USB-C. It has dual card slots—one CFexpress Type A/SDXC and one SD—and an HDMI output. Additional ports include micro-USB, a multi-interface shoe, and 3.5mm jacks for microphones and headphones. It is also compatible with the optional XLR-H1 handle unit for enhanced audio control.

Constructed from lightweight yet durable magnesium alloy, the FX2 incorporates an upgraded heat management system with a built-in fan to support continuous 4K recording at 60 frames per second. Its redesigned grip houses the NP-FZ100 battery and includes one of five threaded mounting points, with two located on the bottom and three on the top and sides. Dedicated physical controls include a power switch, record button, movie and still toggle, zoom lever, playback button, and control dials, along with seven customizable buttons for user preferences. Altogether, the FX2 delivers high-end imaging power in a compact and highly portable body designed for creators on the move.
