Sigma 17-40mm f1.8 DC Art Lens for Fujifilm XF Mount

Sigma has unveiled a new zoom lens designed for APS-C mirrorless cameras that delivers a constant f/1.8 aperture throughout its entire zoom range. The 17-40mm f/1.8 DC Art Lens offers optical performance comparable to prime lenses, while its versatile wide-to-normal focal length helps keep gear bags lighter without compromising image quality. Built with a total of 17 elements in 11 groups, including four aspherical and four Special Low Dispersion elements, the lens is engineered to reduce flare, ghosting, and various optical aberrations. This construction achieves an image quality level on par with Sigma’s top-tier Art lenses, such as the 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art. The 11-blade rounded diaphragm contributes to sharp results with smooth, pleasing bokeh when shooting wide open.

In addition to its fast maximum aperture, the lens offers a minimum focusing distance of just 11 inches across the entire zoom range. At its longest focal length, it reaches a magnification ratio of 1 to 4.8, enhancing its utility in confined spaces and allowing for better control over depth of field. The lens has been specifically optimized for video production, with a bright aperture and zoom range that suit dynamic shooting environments and solo setups. Its internal zoom mechanism keeps the physical length consistent throughout use, which aids in maintaining balance on gimbals and other stabilizers.

To further enhance video usability, the optical design reduces focus breathing, allowing for smooth transitions while zooming and focusing. Autofocus performance is powered by Sigma’s responsive and silent linear actuator system, which ensures accuracy without interrupting audio capture.
