Sigma's innovative optical design features exclusive low-dispersion convex elements positioned at the front of the lens, achieving a balance between compactness and optical excellence with superior aberration correction. With a total of 20 lens elements arranged in 14 groups, including three FLD elements and two SLD elements, this lens effectively minimizes flare and ghosting while ensuring exceptional image clarity. Constructed from Thermally Stable Composite and magnesium alloy, the lens body is durable and resistant to dust and moisture, making it suitable for use in various environmental conditions. Additionally, the front element is coated with a water- and oil-repellent coating for added protection against debris.

Equipped with Sigma's OS2 optical stabilization algorithm, this lens provides up to 5 stops of image stabilization, allowing for handheld shooting at slower shutter speeds while maintaining sharpness. Two stabilization modes are available: Mode 1 for general shooting and Mode 2 with Sigma's Intelligent OS algorithm, which enhances stabilization for panning shots and dynamic subjects, ensuring crisp images even with camera movement in different directions.

The lens features a High-response Linear Actuator (HLA) focusing motor, which delivers fast, precise, and silent autofocus performance.
