Arca-Swiss d4 Geared Pan Classic Tripod Head

Tilt and rotate your camera freely in three-dimensional space using the Arca-Swiss d4 Geared Pan Classic Tripod Head, which blends the benefits of both a spherical head and a 3D tilt head into a compact design.

With a load capacity of 66 pounds, the d4 can support heavy setups, including larger lenses, and offers a balance of subtle yet effective controls. On a tripod, it functions like a typical spherical head when both X and Y axes are released, allowing full movement. Unlike traditional spherical heads, however, the X and Y axes can also be adjusted separately for greater control. Locking one axis at a time makes precise adjustments easier.

Its construction places the center of rotation for both tilt axes in the same location, reducing the pivoting radius and helping maintain composition and perspective when repositioning the camera. A self-locking shock absorption system in the swivel mechanism helps balance the camera's weight.

Alongside manual use, the d4 enables precise gear-driven adjustments on the vertical and horizontal axes when the locking levers are secured. Quick release clutches allow for fast repositioning before fine-tuning.

The pan feature gives you the option of free or geared rotation. Pulling the pan knob out disengages the gearing for rapid, wide movements. Pushing it in engages the internal gears for smooth, precise control. This feature is especially helpful for architectural work, where micro-adjustments and accurate perspective alignment are key.

Two spirit levels placed at right angles beneath the top panning platform help ensure easy leveling from various angles, including low positions. The head supports both traditional Arca-Swiss plates and the modern MonoballFix system.
