Combining exceptional image quality with fast performance and advanced video functionality, the Panasonic Lumix S1R II is a full frame mirrorless camera built for professional photographers and hybrid creators. It features a newly designed 44.3MP sensor, a 779 point Phase Hybrid autofocus system, and internal 8K 10 bit video recording. This next generation model refines the strengths of the original S1R with quicker operation, more responsive autofocus, and significantly expanded video tools for modern production workflows.

The newly developed 44.3MP full frame CMOS sensor is designed to balance resolution, speed, and low light performance. Paired with the updated L2 Engine, it delivers improved dynamic range for richer highlight and shadow detail, faster continuous shooting speeds up to 40 frames per second with continuous or single autofocus, and refined color science for natural and accurate tones. Noise reduction has also been enhanced to maintain cleaner results at high ISO values, with sensitivity expandable from ISO 40 up to 102400. A High Resolution mode uses sensor shift technology to create composite stills up to 177MP, even when shooting handheld, making it ideal for capturing extreme detail in landscapes, architecture, and studio work.

For video creators, the S1R II introduces cinema grade capabilities to the Lumix lineup, positioning it as a true hybrid camera. It supports 8K 30p 10 bit recording for ultrahigh definition projects, 6.4K open gate capture for flexible reframing, and 4K 120p for smooth slow motion footage. Internal ProRes RAW HQ recording is available alongside external RAW output, offering extensive post production flexibility. With up to 14 stops of dynamic range, advanced color science, and optional 32 bit float audio support through the DMW XLR2 adapter, the camera is well suited for documentaries, commercials, action sequences, and cinematic productions.

To support precise video capture, the S1R II includes professional monitoring and assist tools such as waveform and vectorscope displays for exposure and color evaluation, real time LUT support and False Color for on set grading, and a wide selection of codecs and recording formats including ProRes, H.265, and All Intra options. These tools allow creators to maintain full control over image quality throughout the shooting process.

Panasonic has introduced Phase Hybrid Autofocus to the S1R series for the first time, delivering a major improvement in focusing speed and accuracy. The 779 point phase detection system works with AI powered subject recognition to identify and track people, animals, and vehicles. Enhanced eye, face, and body detection benefits both still photography and video recording, while updated algorithms improve performance in low light and provide smoother focus transitions during video capture.

Image stabilization has also been advanced, with up to 8 stops of 5 axis in body stabilization for sharp handheld stills. When paired with optically stabilized L mount lenses, Dual I.S. provides up to 7 stops of correction. For video, Active I.S. delivers stabilized footage without cropping, even while walking or panning, helping maintain a natural field of view.

The camera body has been refined for improved ergonomics and portability, weighing approximately 1.75 pounds, which is significantly lighter than its predecessor. As a member of the L Mount Alliance, it is fully compatible with a wide range of lenses from Panasonic, Leica, and Sigma. The camera features a 4 axis 3.2 inch tilting touchscreen LCD with a 1.89 million dot resolution, along with a 5.76 million dot OLED electronic viewfinder for sharp and accurate previews. Storage options include one SD card slot and one CFexpress Type B slot, while connectivity is supported through Wi Fi 5 and Bluetooth version 5.0 with low energy support.

Additional features include direct to SSD recording via USB C for high bitrate video, full size HDMI output, USB C data and power, external microphone and audio input, and a headphone output for monitoring. A new closed shutter function allows users to choose whether the shutter remains open or closed when the camera is powered off. The magnesium alloy body is built for durability while remaining lightweight, and the camera is sealed against dust, splashes, and freezing temperatures, with weather sealed buttons and a robust internal design for dependable operation in demanding environments.
