The Canon ES-52 Lens Hood is made to fit the Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM, EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM, and EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lenses. It helps block stray light from entering the lens to reduce glare and maintain image contrast, particularly when shooting toward bright light sources. In addition, the hood provides light physical protection, helping to shield the front of the lens from minor impacts and everyday handling.
