Firmware & Software

Occasionally your camera, video camera or electronic accessory may require an update to its basic programming called "firmware." These updates can add exciting new features, improve performance or fix rare bugs. New firmware may be released anytime during a product's life cycle, so it is a good idea to check periodically for available updates to ensure you don't miss out on enhancements that can improve your experience.

Updating your firmware is not too difficult. However, if you feel uncomfortable performing the upgrade yourself, the experts at McBain are happy to assist! Firmware updates are available at any McBain location for only $5.00 per update.

If you choose to go it alone, here are some quick tips:

  1. Make sure your battery is fully charged before updating, the process can be battery intensive, and a power failure may result in your equipment not functioning correctly.
  2. Read the instructions on the manufacturer's website carefully before downloading anything. Firmware updates cannot be undone outside of a service department.
  3. Check your device's menu to see if you can find your current firmware version. The manufacturer's website will usually indicate the current version and help you determine if an update is necessary.
